We are currently seeking a Underground Construciton Manager for a large project Located in Aberdeen MD.

 

Based in York, PA, the Underground Power Construction Manager is responsible for Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Operations Management of assigned underground power transmission projects within the East Region of H&M.  Reporting to the Operations Manager based out of York, PA, the Underground Power Construction Manager may also serve as the Project Manager for any major project requiring intensive on-site management supervision.  Depending on size, scope, and project complexity, transmission and distribution projects will be staffed from various operating business units within the East Region.  The Underground Power Construction Manager performs marketing and sales activities with help from the East Region Director of Power Operations, Regional staff, and Corporate Headquarters.  The position also reviews bids and proposals to provide input for large projects.  The position provides management oversight for all phases of the construction project, including coordinating workers, material, and equipment, ensuring that specifics are being followed, and work is proceeding on schedule within budget.

 

 

Major Job Elements

  • Oversee total construction effort for power transmission and distribution projects to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives, union officials, subcontractors, security, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate and/or supervise activities of all company personnel on assigned project(s). 
  • Authorize/approve all project personnel transactions (hiring, transfers, wages, etc.), purchase requisitions, change requests, etc. 
  • Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedure standards, safety programs, etc., are adhered to. 
  • Provide input and direction to planning, scheduling, and engineering functions as required.
  • Assist with implementation/ interpretation of safety programs.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction. 
  • Directs day-to-day operations for project work full-time on project site.
  • Make contacts and develop business relationships with customers, unions, subcontractors, vendors, and industry associations.
  • Travel to specific job sites as required depending on size, location, and issues.
  • Responsible for safe work practices and implementing company safety programs throughout the area of responsibility.
  • Reviewing and developing performance of all subordinates.
  • Approving weekly payroll and equipment reporting for all assigned Projects.
  • Managing the equipment fleet, coordinating equipment fleet maintenance, and controlling tool inventory on all assigned Projects.
  • Maintains relations with IBEW Local Unions regarding hiring, terminations, and early stage grievance resolution on Projects.

Qualifications

  • The Underground Power Construction Manager must have at least 10 years of supervisory experience in the transmission and distribution electrical construction business.
  • Some formal training in management, supervision, and administration is required.
  • The ideal candidate would be a journeyman lineman, or have a college degree with extensive field experience in the industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Minimum of a high school degree is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (Technology, equipment, methods).
  • Must have prior experience with union jurisdiction and labor agreements  
  • Travel Required
