The Construction Manager oversees all construction aspects of the work, use and maintenance of equipment, and effective use of assigned labor. Generally assigned to a specific segment(s) of a construction project/program and has direct task accountability.

 

 

Major Job Elements

  • Supervise craft workers assigned to the area of responsibility.
  • Manages General Foreman on multiple construction sites.
  • Provides insight to leadership in the continuous improvement of methodology, tools and approaches using fundamentals of H&M Project Management practices.
  • Ensure that team goals, roles, protocols, and business relationships are consistent with high-performance requirements and align with the company's strategy. 
  • Manages in an environment of trust and candor, promotes accountability, and assertively offers encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Provide liaison between field engineering and crafts to ensure construction.
  • Comply with drawings and specifications.
  • Assist in planning work schedule, determining manpower levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc.
  • Monitor work performance and productivity of crafts to ensure project rules, procedures, safety requirements, etc. are maintained.
  • Advise Construction Manager of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc., and assist in circumventing/resolving such problems as required.
  • Maintain liaison with other areas as required to support the construction schedule.     

Qualifications

  • Minimum ten (10)years transmission/distribution/substation construction experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience in working within a Profit and Loss (P/L) environment.
  • Proven track record, and history of successfully overseeing a large work force in a large geographical area.
  • Experience in overseeing construction activities and strong knowledge of construction and utility industry practices. 
  • Advanced technical knowledge within assigned LOB or construction specialty.
  • Experience with industry relevant software.
  • Working knowledge of various transmission/distribution/substation construction disciplines, union agreements/jurisdiction, cost control, scheduling, safety regulations, and engineering drawings required.
