H&M is also a founding member of the ET&D Partnership, a collaborative industry partnership working to reduce fatalities, injuries, and illnesses in the electric line construction industry  is now seeking a Telecommunication OSP Engineer for its Portland, Oregon, office.  The Telecommunication OSP Engineer will be responsible for designing copper/fiber work orders, interacting with customers/developers and municipalities; and adhering to budget constraints. This position reports to Engineering Manager.  Financial assistance for relocation is not available for this position.

 

The ideal candidate will be a Telecommunications professional who has knowledge of important telecommunication measurements, clearances, safety guidelines, and structural requirements, who can work under the supervision and direction of an Engineer.  All candidates should be fully knowledgeable of the requirements set forth in Verizon and/orTelecom practices for electrical protection and have an understanding of the Bell core Blue Book Standards, National Electric Code and the National Electric Safety Code.  

 

 

Major Job Elements

Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, designing outside plant network facilities, field audits, records verification, general documents preparation, data entry, creating work order construction prints, records posting, cable count re-arrangements, joint pole work, and routine work order functions.

  • Prepare manual drawings on vellums when required
  • Prepare electronic drawings using computer aided drafting systems when required
  • Compile data required for the preparation of plans or work order drawings.
  • Field audits of maintenance holes, hand holes and pull boxes identifying cables, conduits and wall to wall footages.
  • Field audits of utility poles identifying service providers and cable types (e.g., Hawaiian Tel, CATV, COAX cable, Fiber cable, copper cable,), hardware, span lengths and attachment heights.
  • Acquire the necessary field information, record verifications, document preparation, required to prepare work order construction prints.
  • Design and redline outside plant network facilities and applicable infrastructure routes from Central Office termination point to customer access point or any segment in between.
  • Fill out Wind Loading / Pole Loading forms.
  • Coordinate access to professional/private facilities (e.g., schools, hospitals, military bases, etc.) when applicable
  • Perform field site meets; meet with developers, customers, local agencies;.
  • Understanding of telephone industry standards, local telecom practices and procedures, local city, state and governmental rules and regulations.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Perform under minimum supervision.
  • Communicate with internal staff and customer with appropriates media’s (email, fax, phone, video, etc).
  • Field check design layouts

  • Time management; prioritizing work and documenting tasks
  • Reporting anomalies to project management stakeholders through established tools or verbally.

Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of aerial, underground, OSP copper, fiber and substructure design;
  • Advanced understanding of telephone industry standards, local telecom practices and procedures, local city state and governmental rules and regulations;
  • Five years’ experience as a Telecom OSP Engineer or similar and relative engineering experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office program, OSP record data base applications, and computer aided drafting systems.
  • Ability to perform field site meets; meet with developers, customers, local agencies;

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Autodesk AutoCAD / Bentley Microstation
