The New England – Senior Director leads the East Region’s expanding New England market business portfolio encompassing power, gas, and telecommunications operations.  Direct oversight of New England operations within a matrixed organization consisting of leaders for each line of business, business development and support staff.


This position will have overall responsibility for the market assessment, organizational analysis, direction, business development, staffing, profitability and growth of the East Region Power, Gas & Underground and Telecommunications Lines of Business in the New England Market (defined as Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine, and New Hampshire). Primary focus is on establishing Henkels & McCoy as a diversified, multi- faceted power/gas/underground/communications organization in New England.


Major Job Elements

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Expansion and significant market growth of the New England territory through the optimization of opportunity assessment, operational performance, safety, P&L and administrative management.
  • Perform detailed analysis of New England market with recommendations for areas of long term investment. Perform detailed organizational analysis of LOB structure to optimize operational performance.
  • Perform business development and sales activities for the area, both stand alone and in conjunction with regional and corporate personnel.
  • Build and enhance strategic alliances with new and existing customers. Foster or establish relationships with existing power, gas and telecommunications customers, alliance partners and potential customers.
  • Become familiar with and optimize bid review process in conjunction with area, regional and corporate requirements.
  • Participate in select proposal and contract development, negotiations and alliance meetings.
  • As necessary, participate in detailed contractual review to manage risks in scope, terms and conditions.
  • Assist in the identification and development of performance and labor strategies to compete in new and existing markets. Provide consultative support for labor relations with the trade unions affiliated with various Lines of business
  • Co-ownership of H&M, East Region and LOB Safety Program. Maintains direct involvement in and champions commitment to the company and East Region Safety Programs.
  • Co-ownership of East Region Peak Performance goals and QA plans, including formal auditing processes such as project pre-plans, project plans and post job reviews.
  • Measure and monitor the progress of LOBs towards meeting all stated goals, safety, quality and P&L.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial forecasts and business plans for the New England LOBs.
  • Support LOB Directors and oversee equipment requirements for the line of businesses. Participate in annual equipment budget process with LOBs and East Region Fleet.

      2.  Provide senior leadership to the entire assigned segments demonstrating vision, experience and professional maturity.


  • Assist the RVP, OVP, Vice President of Power, Vice President of Gas & Underground and Director of Communications with the development of strategic direction of the East Region.
  • Work with LOB VP/Directors to optimize opportunity growth and enhancement.
  • Provide consultative support for the growth of various service offerings within the lines of business.
  • Provide mentoring and skills transfer to appropriate individuals within scope of influence.




  • Degree in business, engineering, or construction disciplines. MS, MBA or Construction Management, Contracts Management and /or Project Management Training preferred.
  • 20 + years in the power / electric/ gas/ underground /telecommunications business with a minimum of 15 years in a management and leadership capacity.
  • Proven performance of sales, business development and profitability in the New England area.
  • Strong proven track record in general management, project management, cost management and project profitability
  • Ability to travel to customer and project locations, as well as to all East Region H&M offices when necessary.
  • Experience in managing, directing and developing employees.
