The Pipeline Division of Henkels & McCoy is currently seeking a Project Manager for pipeline construction work.  This position will be responsible for managing all phases of the construction project lifecycle for projects within the Pipeline Division.  

Position will be based in Birdsboro PA, though extensive, long-term relocation/travel may be required on various projects through assigned region.


Position Overview:

A Project Manager at H&M provides project leadership and management for large pipeline construction projects throughout the USA. This position is accountable for all aspects of a project's success from initial bidding process, to meeting or exceeding the clients' expectations through profitable completion of the job. Additionally, the Senior PM collaborates with other functional project teams in the planning and execution of the job. This includes:

  • Contract interpretation/dispute resolution.
  • Assessing and recommending project resource requirements.
  • Managing project teams.
  • Project coordination.
  • Interfacing with client representatives regarding the project's progress.
  • Management of project controls and accounting.
  • Training, mentoring and coaching junior project managers, controllers, schedulers and other stakeholders.


This position is part of Pipeline Division’s Project Management Office (PMO) and is considered strategic within the organization. The position will report to the Pipeline PMO Director and will include both long and short term remote field assignments, as determined by specified projects and the location of those projects. 

Major Job Elements

  • Manages overall project performance (safety, quality, scope, schedule, innovation, cost, communication, resource issues, risks and customer satisfaction), utilizing available divisional resources and assigned project management teams.
  • Serves as single point-of-contact by establishing, maintaining and managing customer, subcontractor, and joint venture partner's expectations (where applicable) relating to project performance.
  • Reports project status and performance data as required to management, project sponsors and other stakeholders.
  • Ensures strict adherence to all H&M Safety Policies, Procedures and Practices.
  • Ensures compliance with the established H&M Project Management Methodology (PMM).
  • Plans, monitors, and controls the project throughout its lifecycle (bid, contract award, engineering/design, procurement, construction, close out).
  • At any given time could be involved in combinations of:
    • Managing a major project from $1 to $20 million with durations from several months to several years.
    • Project Management support to Senior PM's on projects greater than $20 million
    • Mentoring others in H&M's PMM (based on PMI's PMBOK®).
    • Training/teaching H&M's PMM.
    • Assisting in the development and continuous improvement of H&M's PMM.
    • Assist in marketing and business development activities as required.



  • Advanced knowledge and experience in heavy construction PMM, preferably with self-perform contractors.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Experience / knowledge of pipeline construction operations, financial acumen and the ability to work in a team-based management enviroment required.
  • 5 years of relevant (pipeline construction industry) PM experience required.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Thorough understanding of utility industry practices/standards, operations, contract management with emphasis on power projects required.
  • Proficient understanding of CPM scheduling and associated software applications (Primavera, MS Project) is required.
  • Proficient understanding of Project Controls, Earned Value Management and Risk Management desirable.
  • Significant travel will be required, as well as the ability to commit to long-term remote work assignments.
  • BS degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or the ability to attain within 2 years of employment preferred.

Work Environment: 

The position of Project Manager at H&M requires the ability to work in an office setting, as well as on active construction sites.  This position includes, but is not limited to, significant time standing or

walking on uneven ground, possible climbing of ladders or being in high places, working in tight spaces and, in general, is physically demanding.
