Henkels and McCoy is currently seeking an Area Engineering Manager for the San Diego office. The Area Engineering Manager will be responsible for all aspects of an engineering office. This operating unit currently performs predominately power distribution design work, but we are looking to expand into other lines of business which include corrosion protection, gas distribution, communication and industrial services.  The ideal candidate will have an engineering degree and prior experience in project management, business development, accounts receivable and payables, revenue generation, overhead management, cost containment, contract negotiations, and implementation of and adherence to standard operating procedures.

Major Job Elements

  • Develops bids and proposals for opportunities in all lines of business.
  • Responsible for safe work practices and implementing company safety programs for all subordinates throughout his/her
    area of responsibility.
  • Directs the day-to-day operations of design projects.
  • Make contacts and develop business relationships with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and industry associations to meet or exceed revenue and profit goals as established in the fiscal year business plan.
  • May work independently performing site surveys, estimating, proposal preparation, and quality assurance.
  • Provides documentation, reports, and information to division management as directed.
  • Responsible for management and supervision of office administrative, sales,
    estimating and operational management staff including performance appraisals.
  • Approves weekly payroll and equipment reporting for the entire Operating Unit.
  • Establishes tracking methods and systems to measure and report crew productivity for reporting weekly job progress on lump sum, hourly, or unit price work. This includes determining, identifying and correcting problem areas on loss or low profit jobs.


  • Engineering degree.
  • 10+ years’ experience in the engineering industry.
  • Business development experience.
  • Project Management (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    are required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, pre-employment drug test, credist history check and motor vehicle driving history check.
